Therapy for Anxiety

You’re tired of the racing thoughts and overwhelm.

You think things through, but at some point, this nervous thought or attempt to make a plan turned into nonstop worry. Your mind goes down a rabbit hole of “what if’s” and your inability to control every aspect of a situation feels awful.

The thoughts are bad enough, but what’s really taking its toll on you is the rapid heartbeat, shortness of breath, stomach problems, and headaches. It might be time to get help with your anxiety.

Anxiety Counseling Can Help

People often come to me because their anxiety feels all-consuming, they worry that their life will be like this forever and they struggle to remember what it is like to feel calm and in control. Stress and anxiety are healthy for us to experience, they are our body’s way of sending messages about what is happening in our surroundings. Sometimes we get stuck in stress and anxiety though. The worries grow, and it’s hard to get out.

When this happens, our body might start to function like it is in danger. We do not use our faculties to their fullest, you might notice difficulty with motivation, you may be forgetful, or feel like your head is in the clouds. You might be tired yet unable to sleep, and struggling to focus. This is a sign that something needs to change, this may be time to explore your anxiety treatment options.

The HeartMath Approach

We aren’t built with the innate knowledge of how to shift our body out of a state of chronic stress or anxiety. We are meant to withstand occasional big stressors. The chronic nature of the stress and pressure we live with, in this day in age, is unnatural for our system to handle.

One of the tools I use to treat chronic anxiety in Washington is the HeartMath system of breathwork and visualizations. The combination of these allows your body to receive the signal that you are safe and creates new neuropathways so that your body does not default to an anxious state whenever there is a stressor.

Learning this mindfulness approach to treating anxiety allows you to have a practical plan for daily practice that reduces your baseline anxiety as well as an “in the moment” tool for those moments that anxiety catches you off guard, or shows up in the form of an anxiety attack or panic attack.

Breathwork and visualization tools can help whether or not you are taking medication to help with anxiety or depression. Often times the clients I work with want to try everything else before they use medication. For some, these tools reduce their symptoms enough that they do not need medication and for others, they find that the combination of therapy and medication produces the maximum benefit.

Who is Anxiety Therapy Right For?

You might benefit from online treatment for anxiety if you experience any of the following:

  • Excessive worry - You try to plan for everything and continue to worry that you have missed something despite knowing that you’ve done all you can do

  • Somatic symptoms (physical symptoms) - You have occasional heart racing, fluttering in your chest, tight chest, difficulty taking deep breaths, have stress or tension headaches often, sweating, rapid breathing

  • Trouble sleeping - Your mind races and you have a hard time “winding down’ at the end of the day

  • Sense of doom - You have a sense that something bad is going to happen and you find that you are constantly “on guard” in case it does happen

  • Perfectionism - Your fear of not doing things perfectly is getting in the way of you actually getting things done

While this is not a complete list of symptoms that people with anxiety deal with, if you deal with one or more of these on a regular basis, it is likely that you will benefit from connecting with a therapist who is trained to help reduce these uncomfortable experiences.

The following services are offered through a secure telehealth platform.
